STAR PREVIEW Cardiff City v Bristol City

first_img[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he three consecutive Premier League matches yesterday didn’t exactly do much for my calorie count and it’s a shame that one of the matches couldn’t have been played tonight. Less is sometimes more.Liverpool let me down for the second time in a week when only drawing – I favoured Southampton, although in fairness to Liverpool they probably deserved a win. In any event it was an infinitely more exciting game than the Manchester derby zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Championship action tonight with Cardiff City taking on Bristol City and if the head-to-head stats (below) are repeated we could be in for an interesting match. Both teams need a win for very different reasons. A win for Cardiff would get them within a point of the play-off position line whereas Bristol City would jump from 21st to a possible 17th and put a little distance between themselves and the danger zone.I expected Cardiff to be shorter than the 6/4 quoted at lunchtime by Star Sports – they have a terrific record against Bristol City – you have to go back nine matches to 2002 since Bristol City last beat Cardiff at home (across all competitions) and the last time they met Cardiff were 2-0 up until conceding an own goal in the 90th minute which flattered Bristol City. The Bluebirds are also in strong form at home this season – they’ve only lost once and are bidding for their third consecutive win after seeing off Charlton 2-1 and title contenders Middlesbrough 1-0.Bristol City have won just twice this season and last time failed to hold onto their 1-0 half-time lead against Brighton who came back to win 2-1. Manager Steve Cotterill is expected to name an unchanged side for tonight’s trip to the Cardiff City Stadium. The hosts should again have the services of midfielder Joe Ralls after his hamstring injury but Kenwyne Jones will miss the game due to a shin injury.Cardiff City v Bristol CityChampionship19:45 Sky Sports 1 / Sky Sports 1 HDHEAD TO HEAD RECORD(Maximum 10 matches)Feb 2013 CHAMPIONSHIP Cardiff 2-1 Bristol CAug 2012 CHAMPIONSHIP Bristol C 4-2 CardiffMar 2012 CHAMPIONSHIP Bristol C 1-2 CardiffAug 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP Cardiff 3-1 Bristol CJan 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP Bristol C 3-0 CardiffOct 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP Cardiff 3-2 Bristol CJan 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP Bristol C 0-6 CardiffJan 2010 ENGLISH FA CUP Cardiff 1-0 Bristol CJan 2010 ENGLISH FA CUP Bristol C 1-1 CardiffAug 2009 CHAMPIONSHIP Cardiff 3-0 Bristol CI’m struggling to see why Cardiff are not a rock solid bet at 6/4 and am staking accordingly.RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-50 points)BACK CARDIFF for 25 points at around 6/4 with Star SportsRETURN SINCE START OF WORLD CUP: PROFIT 77.40 POINTSWhat’s your view?
