Arsenal to play MLS All-Stars NEW YORK (AP): Arsenal will play Major League Soccer’s All-Stars on July 28 at San Jose, California. The Gunners also said yesterday they will play Mexico’s Chivas of Guadalajara three days later at Carson, California, as part of the two-game US tour. Previous clubs to play the MLS All-Stars include Chelsea (2006 and ’12), Everton (2009), Manchester United (2010 and ’11), Roma (2013), Bayern Munich (2014) and Tottenham (2015). Arsenal visited the New York Red Bulls in the summer of 2014. Manager Arsene Wenger said in a statement his team enjoys “tremendous support across America” and looks forward to “giving our US. fans the chance to see the team play live”. San Jose also hosted the MLS All-Star Game in 2001. Sunderland fire Adam Johnson SUNDERLAND, England (AP): Sunderland have fired winger Adam Johnson after he pleaded guilty to grooming and sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl at the start of his trial. Johnson, who has played 12 times for England, continues to deny two further counts of sexual activity with a child. Sunderland dismissed Johnson ahead of his trial, resuming today at Bradford Crown Court. In a statement, Sunderland announced yesterday that “in light of Adam Johnson’s guilty pleas, the club has today terminated his contract with immediate effect.” The former Manchester City player joined Sunderland in 2012 for US$14.5 million. Payet signs new West Ham contract LONDON (AP): West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet has agreed a contract which will keep him at the club until 2021. The Premier League club announced the deal yesterday which comes eight months after the Frenchman moved to England from French side Marseille. He has scored six goals in 18 Premier League games with West Ham in sixth place. Payet has played 15 times for France and could be in contention for the national squad at this year’s European Championship, which is being held in his native country.
