Where do you live and why? More from newsParks and wildlife the new lust-haves post coronavirus13 hours agoNoosa’s best beachfront penthouse is about to hit the market13 hours agoI live in Drury Street, West End. My cousin had the house and was urgently looking to sell. I was looking in the Paddington/Red Hill area but West End was an option as I grew up on Skinner St where my 94-year-old mother still resides. I have worked in West End for the past 38 years and it was only five minutes to work. It’s great not having to sit in traffic. It’s the centre of the universe. The diversity of culture, and the acceptance of colour and race, truly a multicultural suburb. Everything so handy and literally minutes away. The cafes and restaurants, Southbank and the arts precinct, multiple educational options, transport, and the people living or renting in the area are generally very nice and friendly. And naturally the home of the Greek Orthodox Community of Brisbane and the iconic Paniyiri festival. A large crowd joins in the Greek dancing at the Paniyiri Greek Festival, South Brisbane. Picture: Liam Kidston. It is also close to where Brisbane’s famous celebration of Greek heritage and culture happens in May every year.Mr Kazonis is a former president of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George and for his services to the community, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal this year. The Paniyiri Greek Festival is on May 18 and 19 at Musgrave Park and the Greek Club, South Brisbane. It is so convenient to everything. We have Orleigh Park, and river just around the corner from home, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants, Southbank parklands, the arts precinct, and the city close by. Our home is very comfortable for us and we also has a nice yard. Our grandchildren have a great time when they come over. What would you change about your home? Nothing really. We have renovated it twice over the past 42 years and it suits us well. Plenty of room for the grandchildren to sleep over. We have had overseas relatives and friends stay over when in Brisbane. Paniyiri Greek Festival president Chris Kazonis OAM loves living in West End, with Orleigh Park, the Brisbane River, and work a short stroll from home. What was the best piece of property advice you were given? If money was no option, what would be your fantasy home and where? Paniyiri Greek Festival president Chris Kazonis OAM with his family. What is the best thing about your suburb? What do you love about your home? You have to crawl before you walk. Buy what you can afford in a good area. Paying rent is dead money. I would say Rhodes Island in Greece. My family roots are from this island and it is a magnificent island with so much history and beauty.
