first_imgOld city schools should meet quality education demand: GuvKolkata, Jun 27 (PTI) West Bengal Governor KeshariNath Tripathi today said there is a growing demand for qualityeducation and old institutions such as St James’ School hasthe responsibility to meet the demand.Tripathi, who was inaugurating a new junior block ofthe 154-year-old institution, said a school can nurture achild’s talent in the most effective way.The governor said the well-equipped junior block, withsmart class rooms, swimming pool and sports complex, willresult in the imparting of quality education to the students.He said providing quality education, aimed forholistic development – for improving the body and mindof a child – should be the motto of every institution.The governor said “Education is the fundamental rightof every child – as every child has the right to learn.”Tripathi said with the strides made by India indifferent spheres including science, the entire world was nowlooking at the country and “we must meet the challenges”.Work began for the junior block in 2016 and theblock was completed in two years.Chairman, Board of Governors, Rev Ashoke Biswas said,the institution was set up to promote the cause of social,value-based education to nurture young minds and imparteducation freed from social and racial prejudices.He said a solar project was slated to be implementedthis year-end, to be followed by ‘rain water harvesting.'”These two essential projects will enable us forclaiming the ‘green construction’ label,” he said. J-K Tourism kicks off Srinagar Adventure Race with more than 100 participants

first_imgThe department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir,recently organised a first-of-its-kind Srinagar Adventure Race as part of Valley Weekend programme.Mahmood A Shah, Director Tourism, Kashmir, flagged off the race at 6 am at Water Sports Center at Nigeen, which saw the participation of around 100 youngsters affiliated with many adventure sports associations.The adventure race started with 500m of swimming at Nigeen Lake, followed by 15km of cycling from Nigeen Club to Zabarwan Park via Foreshore road, a kilometre of hiking from Zabarwan Park to Shankaracharya hill top and five kilometre of road running downhill from Shakracharya to the finishing line at Zabarwan Park. Muzamil Hussain of JK Adventure Sports Club finished first while Suhaib ul Mehraj of Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Club, Suhail Nisar of JK Adventure Sports Club, Nawab Moazum Khan of Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club, and Dr Amin Rishi of Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association bagged the other four positions respectively.Shah distributed prizes and certificates to the winners and the participants at Zabarwan Park.While hailing the youth for their active involvement in sports, Shah said the department is committed to providing facilities and right platform to the youth in all games.Shah added that the local youth had a lot of talent but they needed the right platform to hone their skills and showcase their talent.”This event was just the beginning and we will organise more of such events and at a large scale, in which the athletes will have to cover more distance.
