SULLIVAN — The Sumner girls’ soccer team’s winning streak is now at six games after wins over Lee Academy and Machias last week and a victory over Deer Isle-Stonington on Wednesday.Against Lee Academy last Wednesday, Logan Overlock and Emma Bunch scored for Sumner as the Tigers won 2-1 in Sullivan. Sophomore Skylar Soule assisted on both goals for the home team.On Friday, Sumner traveled to East Machias and won its fifth consecutive game with a 6-0 triumph over Washington Academy. Soule and Bunch scored two goals apiece to put the Tigers ahead 4-0, and Rachel Colby and Taya Worcester added the fifth and sixth, respectively, to put an exclamation point on the win.Sumner (6-2-1) made it six in a row Wednesday with a 7-2 home win against Deer Isle-Stonington (1-7-2). Soule and Lexie Bright had two goals apiece for Sumner, and Bunch, Colby and Worcester also netted for the Tigers in the first game of a doubleheader between both schools’ boys’ and girls’ teams.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textOn the boys’ side, Lee Academy handed Sumner its first loss of the season last Thursday when it beat the Tigers 2-1 in Sullivan. The game marked the first time Sumner failed to score fewer than four goals in a game this season.Yet the Sumner boys would bounce back in the second half of the doubleheader against the Mariners with a 10-1 victory. Damon Warren continued his prolific season for the Tigers (9-1) with five goals in the win.The Sumner girls will look to continue their winning streak when play on the road against Bangor Christian (4-5-1) at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 4. The boys will host Bangor Christian (4-5-1) at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
