Developer promises land for 2010 school

first_imgCASTAIC – Easing parents’ concerns, a developer vowed Thursday to provide land and public services for Castaic High School in time for a 2010 opening. Parents were worried the campus would be delayed if the housing market slumps further because the high school is tied to the 4,000-home NorthLake development. “The high school is in our first phase of the development,” said Ray Pearl, spokesman for SunCal developers, which recently located to Santa Clarita. “Our No.1 priority is providing the infrastructure for the school; the houses will come second.” Pearl also said Thursday that the much-anticipated environmental impact report for the NorthLake site was available for public review at local libraries and, Pearl said, would be online soon at www.planning.co.la.ca.us/case. The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the report at 9a.m. April11. SunCal agreed to provide a 60-acre construction-ready site to the Hart Union High School District – something it has to do by March 2008 to complete Castaic High School in 2010. Not everyone was convinced the campus will be ready. “I hate to be pessimistic, but I do not believe we will see a high school in 2010,” said John Kunak, a member of the Castaic school board.
