“In addition, our agreement paves the way for extensive enterprise development through the building up of existing and new franchisees, particularly in small and medium-sized business development, and it holds great promise for the advancement of black economic empowerment,” he said. “Our research has shown that our shoppers want more convenience, both in terms of ease of shopping and location – and Pick n Pay Express, in conjunction with our other small store formats, will give them just that. As petrol is regulated by the government, it will continue to be sold at the prevailing price until such a time as the government loosens its control on fixed prices. Focus on fuel “This is one of the most exciting retail initiatives in which Pick n Pay has become involved in many years, and will be an important part of our plans to increase our convenience offering to our customers, which is an area of great potential growth,” Pick n Pay CEO Nick Badminton said in a statement this week. Roll-out will be dependent on success of the model, but both companies are confident the joint venture will bring multiple benefits not only to the two companies, but also to South African customers increasingly pressed for time and in search of efficient and affordable convenience retailing. “And in these times of skyrocketing fuel prices, we believe that motorists will leap at the opportunity to buy discounted diesel.” “This agreement, therefore, represents a win-win situation for all stakeholders – Pick n Pay and BP can maximise their business opportunities, consumers benefit in terms of convenience and fuel prices, and entrepreneurial development gets a welcome shot in the arm.” 22 October 2008 Discounted diesel The two companies, which signed a memorandum of understanding in July, will open two pilot sites in the Western Cape by the end of 2008. BP South Africa chief executive Sipho Maseko said that the partnership with Pick n Pay would enable BP to expand their convenience offering while focusing on BP’s core function as a leading fuel retailer in South Africa. “BP is South Africa’s most admired fuel retailer, and by entering into a partnership with them, we will be able to offer our customers the essentials they need, where they need them – in a one-stop offering,” Badminton said. The roll-out would involve further expansion concentrated on BP’s top national sites, with the existing BP Express stores being phased out. The new convenience stores will be known as Pick n Pay Express, and will stock just over 1 500 lines, staying open 24/7. As part of their efforts to lure more customers, the Pick n Pay Express stores will sell diesel at discounted prices. According to the retailer, Pick n Pay chairman Raymond Ackerman has for decades promoted the idea of selling discounted fuel. While agreements between fuel and convenience retailers are not new in South Africa, the new venture will see Pick n Pay not only selling convenience goods on the service station forecourt, but also fuel. As part of the agreement between the two companies, BP will act as landlords and fuel wholesalers, with Pick n Pay acting as the franchisee. Convenience retailing South African food retailer Pick n Pay has teamed up with multinational petroleum company BP in a pilot programme which, if successful, could change the face of both petroleum retailing and convenience shopping in the country. Other things that you take for granted do matter. It doesn’t matter how many friends you have on Facebook, or how many followers on Twitter, or how many connections or followers on LinkedIn. It does matter that you have friends you care about and who care about you, and it also matters that you have real connections, people you know and who know you.It doesn’t matter what other people think of you. Their opinions belong to them and say nothing whatsoever about you. What does matter is that you are a person of character and integrity, your character being more important than your reputation, and your integrity is one of the most valuable of all your assets. It doesn’t matter where you come from, nor do the circumstances of your birth count for much. The things that are out of your control matter not. Where you are going and whom you are becoming—or have become—is what matters.Your past mistakes don’t matter. The Universe has laws that are structured in such a way that the past gets further away from you—and you from it—the more time passes. What matters is what you do today, what you do with this present moment (and there may be something to the idea that we call “now” the present, a word that also indicates the receiving of a gift). It doesn’t matter where you went to school, how well you did, what your major was, or what you did or did not do with your degree. What matters is that you educate yourself and do the work to be the best version of yourself, whatever that means to you.It doesn’t matter how other people measure success, many of those ideas are included in the small paragraphs above. It matters what you consider a successful life, it being yours and yours alone, free and clear of any obligation to what other people might want from you. However, it also matters that you work to reach your full potential, something that no human is likely to have ever accomplished, and the most worthwhile pursuit of your time and energy.

At one time or another, you’ve looked at the clock at the end of the day and wondered where the day went. You didn’t get a chance to finish this project, write that blog post or respond to those emails.Instead of doing something about it, you might have gone to bed hoping to be more productive the next day. After some extensive research, I’ve realized there’s no way to magically acquire productivity, especially not overnight. To drive more results, you just have to use the time you have more effectively.Crossing tasks off your to-do list happens more quickly when you eliminate distractions, busywork and interruptions. You probably know people who are insanely organized. Their spreadsheets are color coded and they have folders for their iPhone apps. Everything they do follows a system. But for most people, things are a little messier, especially when it comes to passwords. If you’re anything like me, you probably have a dozen logins for various sites. Some are scribbled on Post-its or copy and pasted into Evernote. Not surprisingly, people waste a lot of time digging around for the right password. This is where PasswordBox comes in.This plugin automatically stores your username and password when you log in to a site. Logging in to webpages and retrieving your passwords is quick and seamless. Just make sure to choose a master password that’s easy to remember. 2. Pocket. Say you’re working on a blog post and take a quick break to scan your LinkedIn feed. Chances are, you’ll click on a catchy headline and spend a few minutes reading the article. The problem is, you probably won’t stop at one article. Before you know it you’ve spent 45 minutes jumping from articles to videos and SlideShares. Instead of falling down into the rabbit hole when you’re in the middle of a work task, save content for reading later. The app Pocket makes this easy. Unlike browser bookmark tools, there’s no dropdown menu or folder to choose from. Just click the Pocket icon once and the webpage is saved to your queue. Now, go ahead and finish that code you were cranking on or the brilliant email you were almost ready to send. The insightful article about the future of BitCoin will be waiting for you when you’re done. (Confession: I don’t always read everything I put in my Pocket queue but that doesn’t make the plugin any less useful.)Related: One Way to Beat Bad Online Habits and Be More Productive3. If you’re about to dedicate an hour or two to heads-down work (and aren’t expecting any important messages), use this app to temporarily turn off incoming email. After the recent release to TensorFlow 1.10.0 release candidate family, rc-0, the new release candidate rc-1 is out and available. Key highlights of this new version include major features and improvements to model training and evaluation, along with lots of bug fixes to the existing ecosystem. What’s new in TensorFlow 1.10.0 RC1? Modular changes The tf.lite runtime module now supports complex64 type Bigtable is a high-performance storage system which can help you store and serve training data. This new version will support the initial bigtable integration for tf.data With improved local run behavior in tf.estimator.train_and_evaluate function, there is no need to reload checkpoints for evaluation Now you can restrict the way workers and PS interact by setting device_filters in RunConfig class. Thus speeding up the training process and ensuring clean shutdowns in specific situations. However, if you want the workers and PS to communicate in order to complete the jobs, you will have to set customized session_options in RunConfig class. Feature additions and improvements Now you can find Distributions and Bijectors in TensorFlow Probability, which was initially found at tf.contrib.distributions. By the end of 2018 tf.contrib.distributions will be removed. New endpoints are added for existing TensorFlow symbols. Going forward these new endpoints are expected to be the preferred endpoints and may replace some of the existing endpoints in the future. You can find the new symbols added to the following modules: tf.debugging, tf.dtypes, tf.image, tf.io, tf.linalg, tf.manip, tf.math, tf.quantization, tf.strings. Breaking changes done to the ecosystem All the new prebuilt libraries are built against NCCL 2.2. They no longer include NCCL in the binary install. If you want to bring the complete usage of TensorFlow with multiple GPUs and NCCL you will need to upgrade it to NCCL 2.2. You can find the updated installation guide on Installing TensorFlow on Ubuntu and Install TensorFlow from Sources. From TensorFlow 1.11 release onwards, Windows builds will use Bazel. Hence this change will drop the official support for cmake. To get full details on the features list and bug fixes done in this release candidate, you can check out Tensorflow’s official release page on Github.
